Ahlaannnn everybody!! Good evening from Dubaii- masaal khayrr kayfa haalukum :)

So today has been an amazing day! Woke up early in the morning and took a taxi to the workplace I was SOO nervous but excited to see what I will be doing over the week!!

I got to the workplace and met the manager who I will be working under over the week thereafter I introduced myself to everyone there in Arabic which was pretty cool that I was able to do that :D

I was assigned to one of the collegues at the firm  who will be there to guide me and give me tasks to do during the week.

currently its the month of Ramdhan (fasting month) so the firm has 2 shifts, the first one is 8am to 2pm and the second one is 7pm to 11pm. I go the morning one.

Today I simply observed everyone and saw how they talked to clients how they spoke on the phone how they talked to each other, trying to get used to the language by picking up things and also trying to make conversation in arabic as much as I can :)

Overall everyone at the workplace     including the manager were so welcoming and can't wait to go back tomorrow!!!! Till then Ma'Salaam. :)

Ahlaaannnn!! Kayfa haalukumm?!- Helllooo everyone!! How are you all doing?

So today was the second day at the firm! today i sat in the office picking up calls from the car clients which I was nervous to do at first so but one of my collegues here was kind enough and helped me out and practiced with me in arabic a typical phone call converstaion!

most phone calls were in Arabic and I had a few english speaking clients so that wasn't a problem. a typical phone call would be like hello "ahlan"

"sabah alkhayr" good morning, How are you is "kayfa haluk", then I would ask "ay kidmah" which how may I help you.

Most of the clients would like to book for a car servicing appointment so I would ask "ma sa'ah" meaning what time would you like the appointment.

then end with saying ma'slaam, allahyafazuq which basically means have a good day and a way of saying goodbye.

Once I knew what i was doing I picked up many calls (under my collegues supervision of course) and I managed to communicate with the clients in Arabic which is exciting stuff for me! Overalll it was a lovely dayy :D

Ahlaaan!! Masaal khayr!!

Hope everyone is doing well!! Today was another lovely Day!

Today at work I sat in a business meeting where majority of the meeting was conducted in Arabic!  Initially i thought oh god dont know how I will be able to understand everyhting that is going to be said!!

But to be honest at the end of the meeting I was so happy to know I understood parts of what was being said- I was able to translate the Arabic sentences in english and make sense of it which I was thrilled with! My understanding of Arabic is beggining to develop!  Wohooo :D

ahlaaann. .

how are you all doing?? today was a another productive day at work! I spent my day attending and welcoming  clients. Thereafter sat at the reception picked up a few phone calls  :)

when welcoming clients I would say Marhaba, salam-alaykum, they mean welcome, kayfa hal, which means how are you then I woud ask if they want tea or coffee which is "shai/kahwa"

so far so good! enjoying my time here at the firm and my colleagues have been so kind and welcoming.

Ma'Salaam.

26.07.14

Ahlaaan!!! Helloooo everybody!! So today is Saturday and yess I had a day off today and yesterday!! Back to the firm on Sunday!

So today I spent my time sightseeing and shopping!! Had a lovely day exploring this beautiful city with the family and friends! (Who I am staying with)

I went to Dubai mall which is one massive shopping mall! Spent my whole day there and also saw the Burj Khalifa which is the tallest tower in the world!!

Currently in Dubai is the holy month of Ramadan (fasting month) so majority of the shops and food places are open in the evening and shut at 2am!! Which is exciting. The food over here is Amazing and overall I am having a good time.

sunday might be my last day at the firm because it may be Eid on Monday and to celebrate Eid there is a national holiday here in the uae.

:)

salaam-alaykum, ahlan, kayfa haluk?? (hello, how are you all)

well this probably is my last blog, I just wanted to end by saying that I have had a wonderful time in Dubai. I have learnt so much and it has been a fantastic experience abroad. I have learnt many things about this wonderful culture along with learning this beautiful language-arabic.

I just wanted to thank the university for providing students with such a wonderful opportunity. Shukrann! ( Thank you)

and Shukrann to everyone for reading my blogs.

hope you all have a fantastic holiday! Ma'salaam.
